The Second Half Begins...

Hey everybody, this is my first blog entry as well so I am giving it my best shot.

I originally chose this class for my pathway because I was interested in learning more about the events that unfolded that day and the subsequent events that this terrible attack led to. I specifically remember where I was when I heard the news of the attack. This shows me that it was an influential moment in my life that stood out to me. I also remember that I did not fully understand what happened and why everyone seemed in such a panic and on high alert. At the time I was only 12 and really just  knew that the World Trade Center was the buildings in New York. I knew that this was a terrible tragedy to have those lives lost, but at the time I honestly thought it was an accident had no idea what would come of the events that unfolded on September 11th 2001. Therefore, I decided that I wanted to learn more about what took place that day and also what led up to it. I thought taking a class in college would be a great opportunity to do just that.

In the first half of the course I felt that I learned a lot about the events that unfolded that dreadful day and how it affected different people. Hearing the survival stories really brought it to a more personal level. Seeing the movies and news clips really allowed me to have a better understanding since I did not see them when the actual event took place, due to my age.

There are also some new topics I would hope to discuss and learn about in the second half of the course. I am very interested in following Obama’s plans for the country in his very crucial first months of office. I want to see how he deals with our situation in the Middle East. I anxiously try and follow our military plans and actions because my cousin, whom I am very close with is in the army and is scheduled to go oversees in September. I think having information and a knowledge of what is being planned and taking place will help me be better able to deal with having to watch him go.

After doing further research I agree with Megan that an important aspect to focus on is the religion and culture of the Middle East and how that comes into play. I feel that those two go hand in hand for the Middle Eastern countries as religion is such a vital part of their lives. It is a major influence on the people and it definitely played a role in the September 11th attacks.

It has been nice reading what everyone has wrote so far and I feel everyone has some good ideas and it sounds like there are going to be a lot of interesting topics to discuss this semester. I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Also like everyone else, a little unsure of the expectations of this blog, so hopefully this works!

I hope everyone had a good weekend and I will see you in class on Monday.
